Family Tree for Daniel Haynes, Son of Thomas and Emma Henry Haynes
Historical marker in Sealy, Texas
During his career, Daniel Haynes was a successful soldier, farmer, cotton gin builder and operator, and highly successful mattress inventor and manufacturer. The techniques he developed and patented for manufacturing comfortable (non-lumpy), cotton-filled mattresses when he lived in Sealy, Texas, eventually became the basis for the formation of the Sealy Mattress Company, which exists even today and is the largest bedding manufacturer in the world.
This is the family tree for Daniel Haynes, son of Emma Henry and Thomas Haynes. It covers five generations, starting with his parents, but the most recent generation is spotty. This tree is fairly lengthy, so we have included it both as a single graphic and also as an embedded file, whichever you prefer. (They both contain exactly the same information, but the graphics in the embedded file are sharper.)
The Haynes Mattress Factory in Sealy
The mattress factory that Daniel Haynes built in Sealy in 1909 is still standing today, over a 100 years later, and the lines of the buildings look as square and true as though the factory had only been recently constructed. The property is privately owned and closed to the public. The facility includes several other buildings, which were built apart in order to reduce the likelihood that a fire would destroy the entire factory.
Daniel owned several city blocks near the factory, and both he and his children lived nearby.
