Deeds and Other Documents
The Documents pages contain links to most of the useful land deeds and other documents that we came across while searching for information about Thomas Haynes and his family. The links are listed mostly in chronological order and divided into groups related to the various phases in the lives of Thomas and Celia Haynes, their descendants, and the Haynes place. The notation used to identify each deed is of the form "JC Book x, page y description" where "JC" stands for "Jackson County" and the book and page numbers refer to the official deed record books of the county. Only the beginning page number of the deed is listed; many deeds required more than one page in the record book. Documents found in the probate files but having no book or page numbers are identified with the notation "JC Probate Files."
The deed record books do not contain the actual deeds, just a transcribed copy of the deed, usually written by hand by the county clerk or his assistant in cursive script. Consequently, the deed record books may contain errors (and frequently do) as well as undecipherable words or phrases, so our transcriptions may also contain errors.
