People: Introduction
Herb and his Standing Cypress
The People pages contain links to various family trees, genealogical charts and U. S. federal census summaries of "the Haynes place." Also included are links to other web sites describing some of the important people of the 1800s who played a role in the early development of South Texas.
The family trees and genealogical charts are all based on Carolyn's Haynes family database and were produced "automatically" by the genealogical database program she uses (Family Tree Maker). The family trees show only names and relationships; in a graphical form; for more detailed information, please see the genealogical charts and reports.
The format of the family trees shown here is called a "horizontal hourglass chart." The idea is that a chart might look like an hourglass lying on its side, with ancestors spreading out on the right and descendants on the left. In most cases, only the bottom half of the "hourglass" is shown since the tree contains no ancestors or only one generation of ancestors, which would have been the upper half of the hourglass. The results of Family Tree Maker are used "as-is" and displayed either as a single graphic for a small tree or as a longer embedded file that must be scrolled through to see everything. We consider these trees to be kind of "crude" since the larger ones intermingle members of various family groups, use boxes that are too large, etc. But they were produced directly by Family Tree Maker, which does not allow us to control every aspect of the resulting tree. The information that we have is there, even though you may have to scroll back and forth a while to figure it all out. We hope to come up with more presentable versions of these trees later.
Please notice that the menu structure for "People" in the navigation bar at the top of the page contains yet another level of charts (family trees) that are accessible. For example, for Thomas and Emma Henry Haynes, their chart is accessible, as well as a separate chart for their son Daniel. In other words, you can click on either "Thomas & Emma Tree" or "Daniel's Tree." For Thomas and Celia Ann Haynes, their chart is accessible, as is a separate chart for each of their four sons.
The genealogical charts contain more detailed information, and are displayed in an indented outline form. For these charts, the results have been edited to make them more readable and to work with this web site. We have restricted the information included here to only four or five generations, although we have data on seven generations (or at least parts of seven generations). If you are a Thomas Haynes descendant and would like to see our data for five, six, or seven generations, just let us know and we would be happy to provide it to you. Likewise, if you find errors or omissions that you would like to have corrected, please pass the information on to us. (One of our e-mail addresses in listed under the "Stories > About the Authors" link.)
