Note: This deed was not submitted for recording until 1869. In a court case against Celia in the 1880s, Celia stated in an interrogatory that she had paid for the land with two slaves that she had inherited.

This indenture made and entered into this 6th day of July, 1860, between Daniel Haynes of the one part, and Celia Ann Haynes (wife of Thomas Haynes) of the other part, WITNESSETH: that in consideration of the sum of three thousand dollars ($3,000), the said Daniel Haynes hath this day and does by these presents bargain, sell, alien, and convey unto the said C. A. Haynes, a certain tract of land situated in the County of Jackson on the west side of the Lavaca River, being a part of a 5½ league granted to Ramon Musquez (Musquiz), and bounded as follows:
Beginning on the river at the mouth of a ditch and near to the place where Platt’s Steam Saw Mill formerly stood;
Thence with said ditch (a straight line) to its termination near the base of a sand mound;
Thence southwestwardly to a small mott on the bluff;
Thence pursuing the same course that a line at right angles will intersect James M. Stanton’s upper line, and with that line to the river;
And thence up the river to the beginning, will include the area or quantity of twelve hundred and eighty (1,280) acres more or less.
Being the same conveyed by Thomas Haynes to said Daniel by deed dated 8 August 1857.
To have and to hold the same with the appurtenances to the said C. A. Haynes, her heirs and assigns forever, free and clear from the claim of him the said Daniel, his heirs and assigns and all others claiming by, through, or under him or them.
In testimony whereof the said Daniel hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year aforesaid.
