This indenture made and entered into this fifth day of February 1854, between Thomas Haynes of the one part, and James M. Stanton of the other part, WITNESSETH, that in consideration of the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars ($150) to him in hand paid, the said Haynes hath this day and does by these presents bargain, sell, and convey unto the said Stanton, a certain tract of land, containing 500 acres, being part of the Musquiz survey, situated in Jackson County on the southwest side of the Lavaca River, and bounded as follows, to wit:
Beginning at the southern corner of a tract of 612 acres heretofore conveyed by said Haynes to said Stanton;
Thence to the eastern corner of a 1,000 acre tract conveyed by said Haynes to James Stone;
Thence westward with Stone’s line so far that a line run to the westerly corner of said six hundred and twelve acres tract to the beginning, will contain five hundred (500) acres.
To have and to hold the said five hundred acres of land, with the appurtenances to the said Stanton, his heirs and assigns forever, and the said Haynes for himself, his heirs and assigns forever, doth covenant to warrant and defend said tract of land with the appurtenances aforesaid against himself, his heirs and all others forever by these presents.
In testimony whereof the said Haynes hath hereunto set his hand and a scroll for seal the day and year aforesaid.

COUNTY OF JACKSON
BEFORE me, George R. Billups, Clerk of the County Court in and for said County personally came and appeared Thos. Haynes, to me well known and he acknowledged and declared that he signed, sealed and delivered the foregoing deed of this date for the purposes therein contained and expressed.
To certify which I hereto set my hand and seal of office this 29th day of April, A.D. 1854
